T-SHIRT SILHOUETTES & CONSTRUCTION
Nine Custom T-Shirt Silhouettes, with Every Detail Defined
The same fabric can produce a very different T-shirt when the collar, sleeve, body block and hem change. Compare the construction behind a $15 basic and a $60 premium tee, then develop the combination that fits your collection.
Crewneck
180 – 300 GSMSpecify 1×1 stretch rib, set-in sleeves and a double-needle coverstitched hem.
Oversized / Box Fit
220 – 300 GSMChoose dropped shoulders, a wider rib collar and a square body with your preferred hem.
Polo
200 – 260 GSMDevelop a flat-knit collar, 2–3 button placket and side vents for the approved fit.
Long Sleeve
180 – 270 GSMMatch the crewneck block with full sleeves, self-fabric cuffs and reinforcement where required.
Active / Performance
140 – 220 GSMCombine flatlock seams, raglan or set-in sleeves and a specified moisture-management finish.
V-Neck
160 – 240 GSMReview the mitred V, internal facing and 1×1 rib so the neckline sits cleanly.
Organic Cotton
180 – 260 GSMSelect a GOTS-certified cotton option, enzyme wash, rib collar and double-needle hem.
Tank / Sleeveless
150 – 220 GSMDefine bound armholes and neckline, then choose a straight or racerback cut.
Crop Top
180 – 270 GSMSet the body length and select a raw, folded or banded hem for your design.
Your Custom T-Shirt, Developed Around Your Own Specification
Start with the silhouette, then confirm fabric weight, yarn construction and decoration. Review those decisions in a physical sample before approving the production specification for your collection.
T-SHIRT FABRIC WEIGHT GUIDE
Choose the GSM That Shapes Your Custom T-Shirt
Fabric weight affects drape, opacity, print feel and the finished garment’s structure. Compare three GSM ranges on actual swatches and samples so the weight supports both your design and your intended retail positioning.
Lightweight
Fluid and breathable; check opacity in pale colours.
Summer collections, gym tops, layering and relaxed fashion cuts.
Compare DTF or water-based printing; a heavy plastisol layer can change the drape.
Check white and pastel fabrics on a sample; lining or a different weight may be needed.
Midweight
Everyday comfort with a more balanced, defined shape.
A versatile starting point for brand basics, promotional merchandise, retail and events.
Review screen print, DTF and embroidery against the actual fabric and graphic.
Confirm the preshrink treatment and measured wash result before cutting.
Heavyweight
A substantial, structured feel; verify opacity in the chosen colour.
Streetwear, premium essentials and collections positioned around fabric weight.
Review embroidery backing, print registration and DTF adhesion on the heavier knit.
Allow for higher material cost and shipment weight when comparing unit margins.
COTTON YARN & FABRIC CONSTRUCTION
How Cotton Yarn Changes the Feel of Your Custom T-Shirt
Two fabrics labelled 100% cotton and 220 GSM can feel and wear differently. Carding, ring spinning, combing and compact spinning influence the surface, softness and print definition. Compare the construction as well as the fibre percentage and weight.
Carded Open-End
Carded fibre prepared for open-end spinning.
Matte surface with a more textured feel
5–8% if not preshrunk
Review pilling around 30 wash cycles
An economical option for event merchandise and budget collections.
Ringspun Cotton
Carded fibre ring-spun for a smoother yarn.
Smoother hand feel and print surface
3–5% preshrunk reference range
Review surface stability at 50+ wash cycles
A practical balance of hand feel, print surface and unit cost.
Combed Compact
Short fibres removed before compact spinning.
Fine, smooth surface with a soft hand
2–3% preshrunk reference range
Review surface integrity through 80 wash cycles
A premium surface for fine artwork and higher-priced essentials.
Organic Cotton
Certified organic fibre, with ring-spun or combed options and an approved wash.
Soft, natural feel after the approved wash
3–4% preshrunk reference range
Check the selected knit through repeated care cycles
Combine documented material sourcing with the hand feel your collection needs.
Ask about mill sourcing for a specific knit, yarn or finish; availability and costs are confirmed in your quotation.
T-SHIRT PRINTING & DECORATION
Screen Print, DTF, Embroidery or Woven Labels for Your Tee
Select decoration alongside fabric and order volume. Review the visual effect, hand feel and wash performance on the approved sample, so the finish works on a hanger, in product photography and through repeated wear.
Screen Printing
Compare discharge, water-based, plastisol, puff, metallic and high-density inks. Confirm artwork separation, halftone registration and the quoted colour count on the sample, with automatic or manual printing selected for the order.
DTF Transfer
Use direct-to-film for photographic artwork, gradients and detailed multicolour graphics. Review transfer stretch, edge definition and hand feel on the selected knit, then agree the application and wash-test settings.
Embroidery
Choose flat stitching, 3D puff, chenille or appliqué. Review Pantone-matched thread and suitable backing for the left chest, sleeve, neck or centre chest. Multi-head Tajima equipment can support the approved stitch and placement brief.
Woven Labels
Specify damask, satin or taffeta labels, with folded or straight-cut edges. Bring the logo, size, care and origin information into the artwork approval process, then install the agreed labels during garment finishing.
T-SHIRT WASHES & FINISHES
One T-Shirt Blank. Four Finishes for Your Collection.
Develop a range of surfaces and hand feels from the same base garment. Compare four finishing routes in samples before deciding how they fit your collection, pricing and customer expectations.
Enzyme Wash
Reduce surface fuzz and soften the cotton for a more familiar, worn-in feel. Review the wash recipe and sample for hand feel, shade and dimensional change before carrying it into production.
Garment Dye
Apply colour to the assembled garment for subtle character around seams and folds. Approve the shade range and wash effect on physical samples, including any variation expected between individual pieces.
Acid / Stone Wash
Develop a faded, vintage surface using the agreed chemical or mechanical treatment. Compare the distressed effect for streetwear, music merchandise and Y2K-inspired collections, with strength and shade checks after finishing.
Silicone Wash
Review a smoother, cooler hand feel and more fluid drape for selected performance or athleisure tees. Confirm the treatment on the actual material, including its effect on recovery and any later printing process.

Bring the fabric construction, wash treatment and artwork together in one approved specification. We coordinate the manufacturing stages around your collection, quantities and launch calendar.
T-SHIRT QUALITY CONTROL
Three Inspection Stages for Your Custom T-Shirt
Check quality while there is still time to correct it. Incoming material, production and shipment checks use the same approved swatch, measurement chart and pre-production sample as their reference.
1. Incoming Fabric
Verify GSM against a ±3% tolerance target, review shrinkage after a 3-cycle wash and specify colourfastness testing such as AATCC 61. Scan for fabric faults and compare the dye lot with your approved colour swatch.
2. Inline Production
Check stitch density (SPI), seam strength requirements such as ASTM D1683, print position and registration, and label orientation. Include needle-detection requirements and other product-specific controls in the inspection brief.
3. Pre-Shipment
Use AQL 2.5 sampling with dimensional checks against the approved PP sample. Review packaging, carton marks and barcode scans, then document the finished shipment with the agreed inspection records and photographs.
PRIVATE LABEL T-SHIRTS
Your Brand, from the T-Shirt Label to the Delivery Carton
Make the garment and its presentation work together. Neck branding, hang tags, bags and shipping materials follow your approved artwork, so each stage of the customer experience carries the same identity.
On the T-Shirt
Choose woven damask labels, interior screen-printed branding, tear-away labels or tagless finishes. Review the placement, legibility and comfort on the sample, with the selected decoration and care process in mind.
Inside the Packaging
Coordinate printed bags, tissue, seals and FSC-certified hang-tag options with your collection. Approve die-cut shapes, foil details and brand information before the final garments move into packing.
At the Destination
Plan blind dropshipping to 40+ countries with the agreed brand presentation. Confirm the shipping label, carton artwork and documents for each market so the fulfilment instructions follow the garment specification.
